In the last school week of 2006, the Government announces the ‘2020’ program of school closures, targeting 39 schools and preschools. There is a massive reaction against the closures in public meetings. We criticise the lack of transparency and consultation and propose a moratorium on closures until 2008, while a public review is undertaken to examine the future of ACT public school provision. Our comprehensive submission to the Government is made available to the public and media. While many schools close, many of those slated for closure survive and flourish.
