Your Rights as a New Teacher

This event is open to both members and non-members. Here you will have an opportunity to ask questions about your rights and responsibilities, and the union in general. You will also get to share your ideas and resources among yourselves and talk about your experiences. The plan is then to head out for a drink to celebrate your first few weeks of teaching - the first drink is on us! Women's Network Meeting
4pm - 6pm, Friday February 26, 2016 
40 Brisbane Avenue, Barton

This is an opportunity for members to provide a voice on Women’s issues and contribute to the Women’s log of claims. The focus for the first network meeting will be on:

  • The impact of the changes to the Federal Paid Parental Leave on our members
  • The impact of transfer placements on mature age teachers
  • The impact of not having enough superannuation for women who have taken time out for child rearing and caring responsibilities and what we can do about it.

AEU International Women's Day Event

Join AEU members, male and female, for a great evening with a guest speaker, good food and lots of other surprises. International Women’s Day is officially held on the 8th March. The AEU will celebrate the event on Friday the 4th March. This is a day where women all over the world stand together to celebrate the progress that has been made for women’s rights and working conditions and acknowledge what changes are still to be made. Planning for Retirement Information Session

If you are over 45 and thinking ahead to your retirement, there are some planning issues it's prudent to consider now. Includes Q & A. Partners of AEU members are welcome. It’s important that you understand your superannuation scheme, especially if you’re in a Defined Benefits fund such as CSS or PSS, and how it will play a vital role with your income needs in retirement. National Close the Gap Day
Last year, more than 150,000 people took part in 1298 separate National Close the Gap Day events across the country. With events ranging from workplace morning teas, to sports days, school events and public events in hospitals and offices around the country — anyone can take part and make a difference.

New Educator Conference
March 19 & 20

If you're in your first three years of teaching, this is a great opportunity for you to come to the picturesque Southern Highlands town of Bundanoon and meet other new teachers from across the ACT and NSW. You will hear inspiring speakers, and attend worthwhile workshops and seminars about teaching, behaviour management and your rights. AEU Leaders Retreat @ Birrigai

The 2016 AEU Leadership Retreat will be held at Birrigai Outdoor School on Friday April 1 and Saturday April 2. Save the date - we are looking forward to building on the very successful events we’ve held in recent years. Attendees are eligible to apply for paid industrial leave on the Friday. The AEU advises members to give your supervisor or principal at least fourteen days’ notice in writing when applying for Industrial Leave. RSVP here >>>
