SUMMARY:Term 2 Women's Network event - reproductive health
DESCRIPTION:The T2 Women’s network on women’s health addresses the critical intersection between professional demands and reproductive health that women educators navigate daily. With featured specialist Dr. Virginia French leading discussions\, this event acknowledges that effective teaching requires sustainable self-care practices and holistic health awareness. The network creates a safe\, supportive environment for women to discuss health concerns specific to their professional context\, learn practical strategies for managing their reproductive health and prioritising their wellbeing within demanding careers. Back by popular demand\, Dr French will cover reproductive health and key transitional moments in a women’s life as her main topics. \nThis event begins at 4:45pm\, for a 5pm start\, and ends at 7pm.

SUMMARY:IWD Trivia Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a fun-filled evening with food\, drinks and plenty of laughs and test your knowledge of women around the world! You’ll be put to the test across 3 rounds with pop culture\, general knowledge\, sport\, recent events\, women in history and more! Grab your friends\, form a team\, and prepare to be challenged with trivia questions that highlight the achievements\, history\, and contributions of women. It’s a night of laughter\, learning\, and friendly competition. Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day in style! \nThe official 2026 International Women’s Day theme is “Balance the Scales”\, highlighting the urgent need to ensure fair\, inclusive\, and accessible justice for every woman and girl. Across Australia\, conviction rates for sexual assault cases remain persistently low – with the latest NSW figures revealing just an 11% conviction rate\, underscoring the immense gap between legal protections and real outcomes for survivors. \nUN Women Australia CEO Simone Clarke said: “Balance the Scales is a promise for every woman and girl to be safe\, heard\, and free to shape her own future. In 2026\, unjust laws\, policies\, and ingrained barriers still stand in the way of fair and inclusive communities. This International Women’s Day\, we are calling on Australians to join a movement for real action – to transform our justice systems\, amplify marginalised voices\, and ensure equality is not the exception\, but the rule.”

SUMMARY:Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander member event
DESCRIPTION:The AEU ACT branch is excited to host our term 4 training event for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members. \nThis builds on the momentum from our August session which resulted in additional claims being included in the Branch’s log of claims on the core terms and conditions. The new claims acknowledge and seek to address current workplace conditions and structures that often fail to recognise and accommodate the cultural obligations\, expertise and contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees bring to the ACT Public Service. \nThere is much work still to progress. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity to come together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues working in schools\, education support and CIT. \nAll Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members are invited to attend. Members are able to access industrial leave to attend this event.

SUMMARY:Term 3 Women's network event: leadership
DESCRIPTION:This Leadership Development event will be run by Professor Michelle Ryan from the Global Institute of Women in Leadership at ANU. \nProfessor Michelle Ryan is a world-renowned gender equality expert\, Professor of Social and Organisational Psychology\, and the inaugural Director of GIWL. Her work centres on understanding the psychological processes underlying workplace gender inequality\, and designing and implementing innovative and evidence-based interventions to increase gender equality. \nWith Alex Haslam\, she uncovered the phenomenon of the glass cliff\, whereby women (and members of other minority groups) are more likely to be placed in leadership positions that are risky or precarious. Research into the glass cliff was named by the New York Times as one of the top 100 ideas that shaped 2008\, and in 2016 the term “the glass cliff” was shortlisted as Word of the Year by the Oxford English Dictionary. \nHer extensive body of academic work covers a range of constraints on women’s careers such as the impact of COVID-19 on gender inequalities\, how perceptions of equality can lead to gender bias\, the motherhood penalty\, sacrifice\, risk taking\, work-life compatibility\, impostor syndrome\, fatherhood and work\, men’s support for gender equality\, as well as quotas and affirmative action. \n
