Gallery: International Women’s Day Trivia
Nearly 90 participants gathered for our annual International Women’s Day trivia night, honoring the achievements of women worldwide. The event featured three rounds focusing on general knowledge, women in history, and women in sport. Bonus rounds on industrial relations and feminist anthems added extra excitement to the evening.
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8th, has its roots in the early 20th century labor movement. It commemorates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, as well as their ongoing struggle for gender equality. The trivia night served as a platform to recognise and celebrate the contributions of women throughout history.
Teams competed fervently, testing their knowledge of notable female figures, from historical pioneers to contemporary icons. Questions spanned various fields, highlighting the diverse and significant roles women have played in shaping society.
The bonus round on feminist anthems provided plenty of entertainment with teams collaborating to showcase their amazing musical talent to gain extra points.
Ultimately, while the trivia night fostered friendly (fierce) competition, it also provided participants with the opportunity to talk and learn from those around them. As educators we all have a responsibility to challenge stereotypes, dismantle patriarchal structures, and educate our young people to promote a world in which gender equality is foreseeable. It’s up to each and every one of us to be champions for change and to create a more inclusive and equitable world for future generations. Events like this provide the forum and opportunity for people to come together and share.
Our top 3 teams for the night were;
First – The Hot Flashes (some might say they were at a significant advantage with WorkSafe Commissioner, MLA member, school principal, Branch office leaders and experienced teachers!)
Second – 3+3
Third – KSS and friends (actually just 2 KSS members and all their favourite adopted crew)
A big shout out to Yurauna whose whole team attended for the first time – absolutely crushing the ‘famous faces round’ with 15/16 correct. Yurauna is CIT’s dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Educational Centre of Excellence.
Finally, a huge shout out to our sponsors, Teachers Health and Teachers Mutual Bank who contributed prizes to the evening.
