Congratulations to Robert Howatson the 2025 Advocate of the Year.
Robert is an exceptional activist for the AEU, our schools, the BSSS and the wider community. He is an empowering and inspiring teacher and mentor who models the virtues of active citizenship. He is determined that no student is left behind. This is evident in the way he promotes student wellbeing measures and through his inclusive teaching practices. He is also an expert in defusing tense meetings and calming stressed staff by respectfully directing them to the latest AEU bulletin. It’s timely that Robert is recognised for this award, as he has spent years quietly mentoring others, and dedicating himself to a profession and a union that makes a real difference to people’s lives.
