Are you passionate about fairness at work? Do you believe in the power of collective action to improve people’s lives?

The Australian Education Union – ACT Branch is seeking an Industrial Officer to join our team at an exciting time. With enterprise bargaining negotiations ahead for our entire membership, this is your opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of educators across the ACT.

About This Role

This is a full-time permanent position offering the chance to be at the heart of the work of our union assisting our members with workplace problems. You’ll work directly with our members – teachers, school leaders, school assistants, and psychologists at public schools in the ACT, as well as educators at the Canberra Institute of Technology – helping them navigate workplace challenges and secure better conditions.

While we are only currently recruiting for one position, those deemed suitable may be included on a merit list for future positions which may arise in the next 12-months.

  • Providing advice, support and advocacy on workplace issues
  • Assisting with enterprise bargaining negotiations
  • Negotiating with employers to resolve workplace disputes
  • Developing information materials on workplace issues, rights and entitlements
  • Working alongside our organising team on issues that matter most
What We’re Looking For

  • Enjoys problem-solving and finding creative solutions to workplace problems

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Experience in education, industrial relations, human resources, or employment law (but we are open to a broad range of experience you might bring)
  • Union experience (working for a union in some capacity, or at the very least having been a member of a union)
  • Understanding of the Australian industrial relations landscape (but we’re happy to teach the right person!)

If you’re committed to helping others and passionate about workers’ rights, we want to hear from you. We invest in our people and will provide the training and support you need to succeed.
