the future our students deserve

The ACT has always been known for its excellent public education system. But right now, 77 of our 92 public schools are already over budget or projected to be—not because they’re being wasteful, but because they’re doing everything they can to give students the support they need to thrive.

Teachers are managing oversized classes, well above the average that evidence shows is optimal for learning. Schools are stretching every dollar to provide learning support, casual relief teachers, and the materials that make learning possible. And while the ACT Government says its schools are fully-staffed, there are classes being split, collapsed or cancelled every day because no teacher is available.

We need your help to secure the ACT Government’s commitment that it will resource the future our students deserve.

Why this matters

Whether you're a parent, teacher, or community member, the way our schools are resourced affects us all.

Picture your child’s teacher trying to help them with reading while managing 39 other students. Or a school unable to afford the literacy intervention that could change a struggling student’s life. Or being told that your child needs extra help, but that there just isn’t enough money for it.

Our community expects that our students will get the help they deserve, regardless of where they go to school.

Teachers can’t give every child the attention they deserve when they’re spread too thin.

Students miss out on opportunities when schools can’t afford the staff or materials they need.

Our children’s futures are shaped by the choices we make about their classrooms today.

We need to hold the ACT Government accountable

Community pressure is already making a difference. The government has guaranteed no redundancies for permanent staff and backed down from cutting temporary positions. But our schools still need the right resources to deliver the education every child deserves.

Right now, an independent review is examining what adequate resourcing looks like in ACT public schools, with results due in April 2025. Your voice matters in this process. The more community support we show now, the harder it will be to ignore recommendations for smaller class sizes, enough teachers, and proper support for every student.

What proper resourcing makes possible

Our teachers are passionate, dedicated professionals who want to do more for every student.

With proper resourcing, they can:

Together, we’re building the pressure
